Drake White from The Nectar Bar, San Antonio’s first native plant nursery shared this list for CTG.
Flame acanthus (shrub, 3.5’x4’, nectar plant, blooms late spring until first freeze, hummingbirds butterflies and bees, host plant for crimson patch and Texan crescent, full sun, little to no water, deciduous).
Liatris (species native to Texas) (Nectar plant, late Summer-late Fall, hummingbirds butterflies and bees, 2.5-5’x2.5’, deciduous)
Polytaenia texana (Texas Prairie Parsley) (host plant for Black swallowtails, nectar plant, 3’x2.5’)
Solidagos (goldenrods) 3’x2’- 6’x2.5 (fall nectar bees and butterflies, deciduous)
Frostweed (nectar and host plant for bordered patch butterflies, deciduous, ice ribbons when we freeze)
Skeletonleaf goldeneye (3.5’x3’ evergreen shrubbery, nectar source, little to no water needed)
Blue Grama & Sideoats grama host plant for our grass skippers.
Salvia greggii (3’x3’ woody plants, evergreen, blooms Spring-first freeze, little to no water, hummingbirds butterflies and bees)
