Potting soil for hanging plants and containers
by John Dromgoole
A lightweight potting soil is what you want for hanging baskets and containers.
Here’s a mix to make yourself.
Equal amounts:
- Coir fiber
- Perlite
- Good, loose potting soil (and/or mixed with compost)
Slightly moisten to cut down the dust factor. Mix well.
Fill the container part way and thoroughly water the soil.
Add your plants and fill soil around them.
Leave a little room at the top so it doesn’t all spill out when you water.
Water again lightly. Let that drain through and water once more.
Mulch lightly to conserve moisture.
