• leatherleaf fern: 30′ x 30′ , can take some morning sun but needs shade the rest of the day
• maidenhair fern (very moist or boggy conditions, streams)
• lace fern : 3-5′
• wood fern (Dryopteris bissetiana): 2′ x 2′
• Japanese painted fern

Drought tolerant (need some moisture)

• autumn fern: 18′ x 18′; really needs shade
• holly fern
• silver cloak fern (needs good drainage)
• wood fern (Thelypteris kunthii): 36′, drought-tolerant, deer-resistant
