Should I prune my fruit trees in fall?
From Jim Kamas, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Fruit Tree specialist:
It’s not a good idea to prune fruit trees in fall for or a couple of reasons. First, we’d like to retain as much foliage as we can in those trees. Photosynthesis charges our trees up with carbohydrates and are responsible for a strong bloom and good winter hardiness. Typically, we wait until after the first hard freeze to prune our fruit trees. Prune as late as possible, right before they bloom in late winter.
